The anonymous usage data the CLI sends, and how to turn it off.

The marketplace's numbers come from four lifecycle events: a course was installed, started, one of its katas completed, or the course finished.

What's sent

Each event carries:

FieldExample
instanceIdA random ID for the project, kept in .dojo/instance.json
courseIddojofoo/effect-ts
eventinstalled, started, kata_completed or finished
kataThe kata's name, for kata_completed
occurredAtA timestamp

The first install of a public GitHub course also sends its repository and content hash, so the marketplace can list it. Before installing one, add asks for its security checks, which sends the repository's name. The server stores a hash of instanceId, never the ID itself.

Never sent: file paths, your code, agent session IDs or conversations.

Turn it off

Set either variable:

export DO_NOT_TRACK=1
export DOJO_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1

With either set, add also skips the security-check lookup and installs without it.

Reporting is best-effort: a failed or disabled request never changes the result of a command.
